What is Involved with Insulation

Room in roof insulation employs boards of polyurethane or polystyrene that are placed between the rafters and directly beneath common plasterboard walls. Of course, the main intention is to trap more heat than would be possible with existing techniques.

As these boards can be cut and shaped to unique sizes, they are able to offer a rigid and highly effective thermal barrier. This type of insulation is normally found below the walls of a finished loft. Keep in mind that such an approach is different from typical loft insulation that is found between the floor joists.

Insulation is one of the most effective improvements you can make to your property’s energy efficiency, improving your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating.

  • 33% of heating is lost through uninsulated roofs and walls
  • 25-year Qualitymark Protection Guarantee for all installations
  • Free Government grants available

Space-Saving Loft Room Insulation

There are many advantages associated with this type of insulation. One important point to mention is that the materials are quite thin.

This is ideal if your loft does not contain a great deal of available space. Also, the insulation can often be covered with plasterboard or even painted if you are hoping to achieve a seamless finish.

When you wish to insulation a loft room in your home. There are two main grant options at your disposal:

  • The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme.
  • The Local Authorities (LA FLEX) scheme.

It is still important to find out whether or not you qualify for these programmes. This is why it is a good idea to book a free survey with the team at Installers UK.

We will provide you with additional guidance and clarity in order to decide which scheme might be appropriate. This will help you to understand why room in roof insulation could be your best option.

Should You Be Concerned About Possible Restrictions?

There are still some additional points to mention before moving on. Room in roof insulation can only be placed within an area that is equipped with a staircase, so attics or lofts with folding ladders do not qualify. Also, the room in question must not be over 1.8 metres in height.

It is likewise important that the area is properly ventilated, as it might otherwise suffer from condensation. Finally, the roof should be free of any visible damage such as leaks, mould or rotting timbers.

This is why it is always best to work with the team at Installers UK. We will be happy to provide you with a hands-on survey at your convenience.

Reduce your heating bill for free

The UK’s insulation grants, such as ECO scheme, are government schemes funded by the UK’s largest utility companies, including the so-called ‘Big Six’. These companies are duly obliged to offer grants that can help those in need to enhance the energy efficiency of their homes for good, without costing you a penny.

The grants available with the ECO scheme and LA Flex funding tend to cover many different types of insulation, depending on your property age and type. This includes cavity wall, room in roof and loft insulation, as well as first-time central heating and boiler replacements.

How is the Boiler Grant free?

New A-rated boiler grants are also offered as part of the ECO scheme, helping households with the opportunity for inefficient boilers to be replaced completely free of charge, or heavily subsidised.

Providing your boiler is more than five-years-old or deemed as faulty and a homeowner, you should be eligible for a new A-rated boiler, installed by Registered GAS SAFE and Governments Trustmark installer and will come with a guarantee.

For older and more in-efficient properties, grant funding is more likely to cover full costs. If you have a very efficient property, You may need to contribute a small amount to cover the cost of the boiler install this will advised to you before any works are carried out.

How long does installation take?

Most properties can have insulation installed in walls and roofs in just a few hours, although larger households may require an entire day for installation.

Homeowner information

Benefits of insulation

Insulation requires the installation of insulating material in the cavity (space) between two layers of brick, in loft flooring and, between roof tiles and cladding. This can be done at the time of a build or as a retrofit measure. Here are five key benefits to insulation that you might be able to receive without having to spend a penny of your hard-earned money:

  • Available for free if you qualify for government ECO or LA FLEX grant schemes
  • Keep more of your property’s heat that is lost through uninsulated walls
  • Maintaining a good temperature for your home offers comfort and health benefits
  • Insulation helps reduce your property’s carbon footprint
  • Insulation is quick and simple to retrofit when you choose an approved installer like Installers UK

We’re trained, qualified and monitored installers

At Installers UK, we have trained, highly-skilled insulation installers approved by the Governments Trustmark, the Green Deal scheme and Qualitymark Protection
